Frequently Asked Questions
Is Therapy Right for Me?
I'm not in crisis. Is therapy right for me?
Many of the people I work with have successful careers, manage staff, but privately feel exhausted, stuck, isolated, or disconnected from themselves. You don’t need to be “falling apart” to benefit from therapy. You may get along just fine with social support from loved ones or from people who understand what you’re going through. Therapy is for you if you’re ready to understand what’s driving a pattern that no longer serves you, and to make a genuine, lasting change.
What if someone finds out I'm in therapy?
Complete discretion is fundamental to how I work. Sessions are entirely confidential, and nothing about your attendance, sessions, or reasons for being here is ever disclosed without your explicit consent (except in the rare circumstances required by law). Many of my clients are professionals in high-visibility roles for whom privacy isn’t a preference but a requirement, and the way I work reflects that.
I've already tried to fix this myself: self-help books, podcasts, mindfulness apps, previous therapies.
Any effort you’ve already made, including previous therapy, matters, and it usually means you arrive already self-aware, insightful, and motivated, which makes our work faster and more effective. However, what you may logically know or understand may not necessarily change how you feel. What’s often missing isn’t more information or willpower; it’s a structured, evidence-based process, delivered by someone trained to work with deep-seated psychological patterns so your issues don’t resurface. You’ve done the groundwork. This is the next level, not a last resort.
Will this actually work, or is it just talking?
I use a combination of talking therapies, such as CBT, alongside techniques for processing and nervous system regulation, such as EMDR and EFT. Some sessions are more experiential and involve more structured processing work than conversation, and vice versa. There’s no one-size-fits-all method — sessions are structured around your unique goals and what works for you specifically.
I don't have time. I need this to be efficient.
Therapy with me is goal-oriented. We identify what you want to change early on, and every session is structured to move toward that, not to explore indefinitely. Many clients see meaningful shifts within a defined number of sessions. My 6-day EMDR intensives are designed for people with a busy schedule, helping you find relief and reach your goals over a condensed period of time. Click here for more information.
What to Expect
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to meet, for you to share what’s brought you to therapy, and for me to understand your history, goals, what limits you, and what you’d like to be different. Based on what you tell me, we can discuss what approach would be most suitable and how we can work together towards your goals.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on what you’re working on and your goals, and we’ll discuss an estimated timeframe once I understand your situation. Some issues are effectively addressed in a defined, shorter course of sessions (particularly with approaches like EMDR); others, such as longer-standing relational and emotional patterns, benefit from more extended work. I’ll always be transparent about what I think is realistic, and we’ll review progress together along the way.
Is online therapy as effective?
I work with people in different parts of the UK and around the world using secure video platforms. Most of my clients have demanding schedules and prefer the flexibility to fit therapy around travel, relocation, or work without compromising continuity of care. Online EMDR has been extensively researched and proven to be just as effective as traditional face-to-face sessions. I also offer in-person sessions from my Marylebone practice, should you be based in London; or from Banstead, Surrey.
Do you offer concessions?
I do not offer concessions on standard session fees. This allows me to keep my caseload sustainable and maintain the level of clinical availability, continuity, and quality of care that trauma-informed work requires, without compromise. That said, cost-effectiveness is something I take seriously in how sessions are structured. The EMDR Intensive Package is designed to allow focused, concentrated trauma processing over a condensed timeframe, which many clients find both clinically effective and, ultimately, more cost-effective than the equivalent hours spread across weekly standard sessions. Specifically, it includes eleven 60-minute sessions plus a half-hour follow-up for £1,500 — compared with the standard rate of £130 per 50-minute session. Click here for more information.
